box galleries art feature on estila

London-based art gallery, Box Galleries, specialises in bringing together recognised investment artwork with emerging talent, showcasing artwork of different styles at various price points. Its founder, Emma Moir, is passionate about providing a platform for emerging and established artists and offering various services for both, the collector or end client as well as interior designers and trade.

Here we speak with Emma about Box Galleries’s journey so far and its plans for the near future..

Can you take us back to the start, why and when Box Galleries was started?

I established Box Galleries in 2012, because I saw there were no galleries at the time that showcased emerging artists alongside recognised investment art in a friendly and approachable environment.

Our aim is to show a variety of artwork at various price points, provide a platform for emerging artists, as well as to build up investment collections of highly reputable artwork. We have built ourselves an impeccable reputation for having access to artwork by some of the biggest names in the art world, such as Damien Hirst, Roy Lichtenstein, David Hockney and Andy Warhol – to name just a few. In addition to selling artwork we offer flexible leasing terms for both homes, offices, hotels and restaurants. We also offer the ability to source artwork outside our portfolio, as well as sell artwork on behalf of private clients.

What services do you offer?

Whenever possible, we bring the artwork over to the home, office or commercial venue in order to view in situ, and finally offer a complimentary installation service by a professional art installation company.

You have a great portfolio of artists. How do you curate them? Do you have some specific criteria or are you being guided by clients?

Creating the portfolio over the years has been a very organic process, and it is ever changing. I discover artists through visiting art fairs, degree shows, keeping my eye on online sales platforms, referrals by other art dealers, or through social media platforms.

I have always had a strong vision in showcasing a real variety of artists, who create consistent and quality work, and offer a sliding scale of price points. We are certainly client led, hence being able to source outside our portfolio.

What is Box Art Interiors about?

I set up Box Art Interiors in 2021 in order to create and source unique artwork for Interior Designers when building or renovating properties, hotels and luxury yachts. We always encourage designers to use original unique work, as opposed to the online open edition print sites that are often referred to for ease.

There is certainly a place for those websites, however, if someone has hired an interior designer and there is a dedicated team working on the aesthetic of the interior, then it warrants exclusive fine art that has a value, and hopefully in time will be an investment. Regardless of budget, this can be achieved with Box Art Interiors. As well as access to our portfolio, and being able to source from our contacts of art dealers, we also have a team of in-house artists who can create bespoke commission work.

How do you work with interior designers on projects?

The most important aspect is getting to know the designer’s vision, and the client’s style and personality. The earlier on in the project we are involved the better, so that the artwork fully ties in with the design and the property as a whole. We work with the designer’s mood boards, elevations and videos of the potential spaces, and then we superimpose artwork options onto the designers’ visuals.

We bring the artwork over to the home, office or commercial venue in order to view in situ and finally offer a complimentary installation service by a professional art installation company.

The visuals are great as we can work remotely with international designers and clients, and then package and ship the work professionally.

What’s next for Box Galleries for the rest of 2024 and beyond…

We are the first gallery to have a permanent showcase at the Chelsea Design Centre – the ultimate international design and interiors hub, and plan on consolidating our position as the go to gallery for sourcing artwork for any project. We have a few extremely exciting collaborations and exhibitions coming up for the end of 2024, and into 2025, so watch this space!
