vurchoo ethical silver jewellery set

Recent years have seen the rise of something new and disruptive particularly in the fashion industry. Socially responsible retail has been around for a while but increasingly it’s the small independent labels that lead the way for the growth of this concept.

If you haven’t heard of it before, socially responsible retail is a business model that is centred around helping people and society. It encourages consumers to be more mindful of what they purchase and how they consume it. Purpose-driven brands educate customers on the social benefits when buying one of their products. The ethical considerations and purpose are what defines the design, production and all other operational aspects of running the business.

One such company that is doing just that is a jewellery brand Vurchoo who partners with UK charity Teach a Man to Fish. The charity works globally and supports young people to develop key life skills, helping that to succeed in school, work and life.

Started by designer Alex Angel-Benscher, Vurchoo works with children from Europe, South America, Asia and Africa, who draw pictures which Alex then translates into beautiful ethical jewellery.

Every piece of jewellery that Vurchoo sells gives between 10-25% of profits to the Teach a Man to Fish charity. This initiative empowers not only the pupils, but also helps the communities they are part of, changing lives as a result.
