Colour-minded and nature-driven designer Claire Templer announces the launch of her debut wallpaper collection, Apothecary – a series of hand-crafted botanical designs that weave together history, folklore, and the enduring beauty of the natural world.

The collection features five signature designs – Alexanders Parsley, Parsley, Pressed, Writ, and Dandelion – each offered in multiple colourways, resulting in 25 unique wallcoverings. Every pattern is drawn from plants historically valued for their medicinal qualities, with colours named after real plant varieties, regional traditions, old superstitions, and folklore connected to each plant.

The idea for Apothecary began when Templer discovered a vintage book on British flora in a secondhand shop. Captivated by the groupings of plants and their shared medicinal properties, she embarked on a three-year journey of research, pressing plants collected locally, and studying their textures, colours, and structures.

“Initially, I just wanted to take time to really observe the plants,” says Templer. “Pressing them at home allowed me to absorb their forms in a natural way. I wanted to honour how they appear in nature – how parsley bends and curves, or how dandelion seeds swirl in the wind – and translate that into patterns for the home.”

With a professional background in colour consultancy, Templer approached the palette with intention. She drew not only from the true colours of the plants but also from the hues of Victorian and early Georgian colour charts, referencing the period when apothecary practices flourished.

“I wanted to create something that was both historically resonant and deeply connected to nature,” Templer explains. “The colours, ranging from rich and vibrant, to muted and grounded, are designed to be cohesive and versatile, layering beautifully with natural materials, vintage pieces, period or earthy modern interiors.”

The Apothecary wallpapers are produced in collaboration with a renowned Lancashire-based manufacturer known for its eco-certified inks, sustainable non-woven substrates, and low-waste digital printing processes. Templer worked hands-on with the printers, testing colours and substrates to ensure the highest quality finish.

Templer adds: “This collection is about drawing people’s attention back to nature – our connection to it, linking our interiors to it, and creating that bridge between the interior and the exterior. These designs have a lively yet natural presence; they can bring drama and energy, or a rich, grounded calm, depending on how they’re used. At a time when people are seeking deeper connections with the natural world, I hope they inspire that sense of balance and renewal within the home.”

The Apothecary collection is designed to complement a wide range of interiors, from heritage and English country homes to modern organic spaces. Each design reflects the character of the plants themselves, offering both elegance and a subtle reminder of our historic relationship with nature.
