Woody’s Concrete Company is redefining concrete material with innovation and sustainability. Started by a husband and wife team, Steven Wood and Izzy Taylor-Wood, the brand creates unique bespoke projects from worktops, basins to furniture and floors.
Here, we chat with them about the journey to founding Woody’s Concrete Company in more detail…
Can you tell us the backstory of Woody’s Concrete Company? When and why was it started?
Woody’s Concrete Company was founded in 2017, but our journey started long before that. At the time, following his career as a professional sportsman, Woody began working for a well-established concrete company, training in the installation of polished concrete flooring. From there, he moved to another respected manufacturer where he was introduced to pre-cast and cast-in-situ concrete.
Those experiences gave him not just the technical skills but also the perspective of what worked well and what he felt could be done differently. It was those takeaways that inspired us to create Woody’s Concrete Company, one that offers the full range of concrete finishes rather than limiting itself to just one trade, such as floors or worktops.
My own background is in architectural studies, having focused on the history of architecture at university, and later building a career at one of the UK’s largest media firms, where I developed strong administrative and organisational skills. Together, we brought Woody’s Concrete Company hands-on technical expertise and my design eye and business management into one place.
From the start, our aim wasn’t just to make concrete practical, but to show how it could be a durable, versatile, and beautiful part of contemporary spaces. What began with a few small projects quickly grew through word of mouth and collaborations with architects and designers who shared our belief in concrete’s potential.

What is unique about your brand?
At its core, Woody’s Concrete Company is about more than just concrete. It’s about creating spaces that bring together beauty, function, and sustainability. Every project is bespoke, shaped around the client’s space and lifestyle, with finishes like polished concrete and microcement offering a balance of elegance and durability.
But perhaps the most defining part of our brand is the client experience. The feedback we value most is not just about the finished result, but how much our clients enjoyed working with us throughout the journey and even after completion. We see our role as collaborative partners rather than contractors, guiding clients from concept through to the final polish and beyond.
With a background rooted in design and styling, we always step back to see the bigger picture, ensuring that every surface contributes to the overall success of the space. For us, the project’s success matters just as much as it does to our clients, and that shared investment is what sets Woody’s Concrete Company apart.
How important is sustainability to your brand?
Sustainability isn’t a buzzword for us, it’s a guiding principle. Concrete, when considered thoughtfully, can be an inherently sustainable choice thanks to its durability and longevity. A well-executed concrete floor, for example, will often outlast alternative materials, reducing the need for replacement and waste.
We reflect this in the way we work, from using efficient installation methods that minimise excess materials to sourcing from suppliers who share our values and are actively reducing their carbon impact. Just as importantly, we encourage clients to think about timelessness in design, choosing finishes that won’t feel outdated or disposable after just a few years. For us, sustainability isn’t only about the materials; it’s about creating spaces that clients will continue to love and live with for decades.
What is your favourite project so far? Take us through the journey from concept to completion…
Choosing a favourite is always difficult because each project is so personal, but one that stands out is The Garden at Still House.
The client’s brief was ambitious: they wanted to transform the house into a state-of-the-art home that could comfortably host and entertain, while also meeting the highest standards of sustainability and energy efficiency, a big job for architect Julian Loeffler. For us, the focus was on creating seamless indoor-outdoor connections through carefully considered concrete flooring and landscaped surfaces that would support this vision.
We began with collaborative design discussions alongside architect Julian and the client, drawing inspiration from a vintage Scandinavian wall hanging in the client’s collection. Its earthy palette and geometric tree motif became a guiding influence, carrying through to the tones and textures we developed in the garden.
During installation, there were significant challenges. The site was spatially restricted and subject to conservation constraints, which meant our work had to balance respect for the historic setting with innovative new solutions. Weather conditions also played their part, especially when working with polished concrete externally, where timing, curing, and finish are critical. But through close coordination with the wider team, we achieved a durable and elegant result.
The end result is a garden that feels both contemporary and timeless: cast concrete surfaces with embedded travertine fragments, echoing the earthy clay and stone palette of the interiors, and providing a playful yet refined continuation of the home’s design language. What makes this project a favourite is not just the beauty of the finished garden, but the process itself, the creative problem-solving, the bespoke details developed along the way, and the collaboration with Julian, the landscapers, and the client.
Most rewarding of all was seeing the client step into the completed space and truly inhabit it, where design transformed into lived experience.

What are some of the plans for near future?
Looking ahead, we’re excited about several things. A significant part of our future involves expanding our collaborations. We’re continuing to work with architects, interior designers, and landscapers who share our values and want to push boundaries alongside us. These partnerships are where some of our most creative solutions emerge, and they allow us to deliver projects that are both technically ambitious and deeply personal for our clients.
We’re also exploring new product offerings, developing finishes and systems that combine aesthetics with sustainability. A particular focus for us has been Rammed Earth, a naturally sustainable building material. Woody’s has already created several showcase pieces using earth sourced locally, which can be viewed at our Oxfordshire workshop by appointment. Alongside this, we continue to refine concrete solutions, giving clients more choice whether they want something bold and striking or subtle and understated, all designed to last and with a low environmental impact.
Another exciting focus is creating more opportunities for people to see and experience our work firsthand. After the success of our last open showcase, we’re planning future events where clients, collaborators, and curious visitors can step into the world of concrete and earth, touch the surfaces, and appreciate the craftsmanship up close.
Ultimately, the future for Woody’s Concrete Company is about continuing to innovate, challenging perceptions, and inspiring people to think differently about the materials they live with. And of course, there are some very exciting developments in the pipeline, but those will have to remain under wraps for now.
