Fenwick & Tilbrook and Irenie Cossey come together to design a Grade II listed townhouse in London

Fenwick & Tilbrook project with Irenie Cossey

Earlier this year Norfolk based paint company, Fenwick & Tilbrook, collaborated with designer Irenie Cossey on a restoration of an 1840’s Grade II listed, Neo Jacobian house in De Beauvoir Square in London.

This majestic townhouse is beautifully designed, with colours running through all floors.

Here we chat with Anna Hill, brand director and colour consultant of Fenwick & Tilbrook, about this collaboration..

How did this collaboration come about?

Irenie came across our paint company in 2023, and very quickly we arranged an initial call that led to a house visit. Soon after, Irenie and her son Jake came to Norfolk to work with Clare Tilbrook on a bespoke creation. We were excited for Irenie to order our paint and see her vision come to life.

What were the bespoke colours and the inspiration, brief behind them?

The bespoke colours in the property include Rosa Red, used in the core of the house, inspired by the rose garden in De Beauvoir Square at the heart of the park, and Curiouser & Curiouser, inspired by Alice Through the Looking Glass (a theme that runs through the house). The latter was used for the hidden drinks cabinet in the garden, reflecting the original green gloss door discovered early in the renovation.

How do you feel about the result of this collaboration?

Irenie has been a delight to work with, involving us throughout and introducing us to other makers, artisans, and small businesses – something that’s been truly special. We feel like part of the wider “On The Square” family! We were lucky enough to host a small press event at the house and carry out our own photoshoot there too, which has been a real privilege for us.
