Amanda pistillo artist

Introducing mixed media artist Amanda Pistillo. A self-taught artist with a passion for designing mixed media artwork, Amanda explores the freedom and wonder of art. Her artwork is always created with the sincere hope that they provide happiness to others, as one of the goals in designing her artwork is to encourage others to create in their own unique artistic style. Amanda’s heart is at the centre of her design process, always guiding her to create with love.

Here we share her story so far..

Can you tell us your backstory and how you got into the art world?

I have been creating art since I was a child, always loving and appreciating the process as well as the healing power of art. Art has helped to centre me in times of struggle, and always brings me so much happiness and peace. I create with all of my heart and with the hope to bring love and joy to others!

What influences your work?

I love creating colourful and playful mixed media art pieces! My influences include pop culture, all things vintage, and the freedom and the raw edge that music seduces us with. Every art piece that I create is one-of-a-kind, totally unique, and made with lots of love.

How would you describe your signature style and technique?

Over time I have learned to exercise a sense of courage when creating my art, just being totally free. I enjoy using a rainbow of colours within my work, along with an edgy/sweet kind of look. I never have an exact plan of how the piece will turn out, I just go with the flow and try to be fearless. I’ve found that the best process for me when I’m creating my art is to just listen to my heart and let go of any control.

Are there any exhibitions or events you are planning?

At my heart’s core is a Fundraising initiative that I have created called With HeART Fundraiser . It uses art as the vehicle through which to raise funds for charity, with 100% of proceeds going directly to charity. I have been so grateful to have collaborated with Safe Transitions (@safetransitions_co), Toronto Humane Society (@toronto_humane_society), Canadian Women’s Foundation (@canadianwomensfoundation), Aids Committee Of Toronto (@acttoronto), and beginning May 1st I will be collaborating with Blue Door Shelter .

What is the best advice you received as an artist?

I think it’s really important to be yourself and to have a sense of fearlessness when creating your art. There are going to be people who will have opinions about what you have created and want to change your style of art, but always remember how unique you are and to never conform to other people’s expectations. Always believe in your art and in who you are. Your art is a reflection of you, and all of your divine creativity and your beautiful soul! Always remember to keep persevering, try new techniques, and always, always stay true to yourself!
