dechem studio Czech glass design

Founded in 2012, Dechem Studio focuses on high-end glass design and production work, based on traditional production techniques and lyrical forms of its handmade glass products. Partners in both work and life, Michaela Tomišková and Jakub Janďourek established the studio in Prague, Czech Republic, after gaining extensive experience in design and production. Providing a full range of in-house designed glass products alongside their creative design services, the award-winning Dechem Studio has built a reputation across the globe.

The core of the studio’s work represents its own collection of contemporary design pieces with the mastery of production technologies and respect for centuries-old craft and traditions. The studio produces unique light fixtures, decorative and practical items of minimal forms and unique cut glass pieces.

A significant component of their work is blowing glass onto a colourful gradient. The wide range of fresh gradient colours is showcased for example on the Bandaska vase. Presented for the first time in 2014 at Prague International Design Festival – Designblok – it obtained an award Czech Grand Design 2014. The Bandaska vase was also selected by Spazio Rossana Orlandi for the Salone del Mobile fair in Milano and the London Design Fair. The simple yet elegant lines are inspired by ordinary forms of traditional metal containers for water and milk, used in Czech households for centuries.

Handblown into beechwood molds, these glass vases are a distinctive addition to any interior. The thickness and longevity of the vases are achieved thanks to the delicate techniques of a centuries-old craft, while the gradient pastel colours come from a complex pigmentation dilution process.

The studio also produces unique light fixtures “Luminaires” and unique cut glass pieces “Precious”. All of the products are manufactured in traditional Czech workshops using delicate techniques including hand-made blowing, snapping, cutting, grinding, firing, engraving and painting.
