British lighting manufacturer J. Adams & Co presents new ‘Porto’ portable LED table lamp. First launched at Decorex International, London in October 2022, Porto marks a new direction for J. Adams & Co, combining the brand’s trademark precision engineering with the latest in portable LED technology. Building on the visual language of the best-selling Flume collection, and with a design that maximises on flexibility, the light can be easily picked up and moved to change the ambience of any space.
The Porto Table Light is both fun and intuitive to use. It features a completely wireless touch-sensitive light source, dimming capabilities, and a battery life of 6-10 hours.
Showcasing precision-cut reeded glass and an expertly machined solid brass base, Porto is manufactured with longevity in mind. Following the brand’s unwavering highly crafted approach to lighting design, every detail has been carefully considered – from the convenient mini-USB connector in the base and seamless braided charging cable to the generous light output. The result, a portable fixture that does not compromise on quality, matching even the most luxe ‘plug-in’ table light.
J. Adams & Co Design Director Will Earl’s design philosophy is one born from materiality and craft, combined with a rich understanding of the science and application of light. Will began his career in furniture and product design in Milan, but an enduring fascination for how lighting can define a space by its application, ultimately led him to lighting design.
Returning to the UK, Will embarked upon a career in architectural lighting. Working at Mindseye, Will created interior lighting concepts for international commercial projects including The Royal Society of Arts and BMW brand stores in London and Paris; whilst his time at CTO Lighting saw Will create bespoke installations for London’s prestigious Chiltern Firehouse and Rosewood Hotel. As in-house product developer at Original BTC and then later at internationally renowned design brand Lee Broom, Will honed his design and development skills with a hands-on approach that led him to meet brand owner Adam Yeats.
Forming a partnership, Will undertook the role of Design Director in 2019, taking the traditional industrial aesthetic of J. Adams & Co. forged by Yeats and imbuing it with a contemporary elegance. To date, under Will’s creative leadership, the brand has launched three lighting collections; including the best-selling Flume collection. Will divides his time between the brand’s London based design studio and the Birmingham workshop.
