An Artful Life Studio totally transformed this modern London mews house in Stoke Newington for its new owners, a professional couple and their two cats.
The house wasn’t to the clients’ taste when they purchased it and the layout felt dark and uninspiring. The original hallway was starved of natural light, so the first priority for the designer, Kate Whitfield, was to open it up and create more connectivity between the spaces.
The brief was to create a serene, harmonious feel throughout the 3.5 storey house. A restrained colour palette was used but with lots of different textures and materials to make it tactile, adding warmth and interest.
Plenty of tailored joinery, designed in-house, not only keeps the space uncluttered but makes for some key features in some of the rooms (like the striking fireplace in the open plan living area with its fluted wood cupboards providing useful storage as well as concealing a TV!). The clients couldn’t be happier with the result.
Let’s take a tour..
