anglepoise lamp Paul Smith

British lighting brand Anglepoise unveils its fifth and latest collaboration with renowned designer, Paul Smith – the Anglepoise + Paul Smith Edition Five.  The collection comprises two desk lamps (Mini and Standard size) and a floor lamp and builds on Paul’s ‘classic with a twist’ design philosophy.

Where previous collaborations have maximised on Paul’s mastery of colour, the Edition Five takes a different approach and features the Artist Stripe on a pared back, pure black version of the Type 75 Anglepoise, itself designed by Sir Kenneth Grange.

Adam Wade, Technical Director at Anglepoise says: “By creating a design that is head-to-toe black – from screws and fittings through to our signature springs – we bring focus to the purity of Kenneth’s Type 75 design. For the first time the Paul Smith Artist Stripe features on the lamp and so we also get an instantly recognisable flourish befitting of Paul Smith’s name. The Edition Five is elegant, fun and just a little bit eccentric; a future classic in the making.”

This new collection comes at a time when the brand has stepped up its commitment to combating a world without fast homeware through the introduction of its Lifetime Guarantee. They introduced the guarantee on all its products used in a domestic setting to stem the flow of products destined for landfill and remind people that good design goes beyond aesthetics. The heirlooms of tomorrow should be repairable, reusable and, as a last resort, recyclable.

The brand started in 1932, when vehicle suspension engineer George Cawardine invented a spring, crank and lever mechanism that could be positioned with the lightest of touches yet maintain its position once released, a blueprint for the first task lamp. Over the years, the iconic lamp has been developed under the careful watch of the Terry family, without ever losing sight of its primary function and unique, characteristic form. From the creation of the Original 1227™ lamp, to the development of extended collections by esteemed industrial product designer Sir Kenneth Grange, to recent collaborations with renowned designers Paul Smith and Margaret Howell, incomparable British design remains at the heart of this progressive, British brand.
