Share
With over 100 leading exhibiting galleries from the UK and around the world showcasing thousands of artworks in all styles, genres and mediums, Affordable Art Fair is a well-known destination that brings together an unparalleled selection of emerging and established contemporary artists.
This spring at its Battersea location in London, the fair presented an International Women’s Day exhibition, displaying artworks of inspiring female artists from across the international creative community. Featured artists included Mekia Machine (Smithson Gallery) whose work investigates aesthetic and societal norms as a queer Black artist, Ukrainian figurative painter Iryna Yermalova (Hancock Gallery), Margaux Carpentier (Art Friend), whose work To The Stars Above celebrates female independence, abstract artist Sophie Abbott (Lara Bowen Contemporary) whose painting process has helped her cope with the tragic loss of her mother, and Nana Shiomi (Hanga Ten) whose print A Room of One’s Own is dedicated to the feminist author and icon Virginia Woolf.
Here is a selection of art pieces and artists that caught our eyes:
1. Juan Escudero, Pigment Gallery
2. Pier Toffoletti, Galeria Palma Arte
3. Bob & Eve, Lara Bowen Contemporary
4. Nick Grindrod, Smithson Gallery
5. Aboriginal art, Bay Gallery Home
6. Sarah Warren, Artfully Sorted
7. Michael Proper, Goodwin Gallery
8. Liberty Gallery
Taking shape during the fair, street artist David Shillinglaw created a large-scale, 5 metre long mural called Bodies of Land and Water. David’s practice shifts between the street and studio using a variety of materials and mediums. He has created large scale murals all over the world including at London’s Olympic Village.
