spark and bell seraphim chandelier as featured by estila

“Seraphín” is the new modular chandelier from purpose-driven lighting design studio, Spark and Bell. Designed by Spark & Bell’s founder, Emer Gillespie, the light is the studio’s most opulent piece to date and the first to be designed for commercial interiors.

The “Seraphín” chandelier uses crystalline drops made from Spark and Bell’s unique “Jewel” recycled plastic, giving an ethereal quality to its cascading, multi-tiered design. Adding a sense of weightless movement, these pill-shaped drops diffuse and spread light with an aura-like quality for a mesmerising centre piece.

In keeping with Spark & Bell’s ethos of functional, flexible lighting design, “Seraphín” is available in a full three-tiered version, as well as one and two-tiered options. Letting designers adapt the piece to fit spaces, “Seraphín” is made-to-order from a maximum diameter of 570mm and 850mm height to a minimum of 390mm x 400mm.

Spark & Bell’s “Jewel” recycled plastic is made in-house from CD cases saved from landfill and is unique to the studio. Using a recycling and forming process developed over several years in the studio’s Brighton workshop, every drop is hand-worked for a crafted feel, yet with a consistency of size and finish that ensures every light upholds the requirements for high-quality, durable pieces in hospitality and other commercial settings. With over 120 CD cases in each three-tier chandelier, “Seraphín” keeps over eight kilograms of plastic from going to waste.

“Seraphín” comes in two colours of “Jewel” recycled plastic, oyster with satin brass metal and onyx with bronze metal. Fabricated in the UK, the metal components are locally sourced from within a 200-mile radius. The chandelier is designed to be fully repairable through the studio’s lifetime repair service.

Emer Gillespie, studio founder and designer, explains more about the statement light:

“We’ve been thinking about and designing this light for a while, testing various iterations until we had a light that was both balanced and adaptable. It certainly feels like a Spark & Bell piece in its form and making the drops with our “Jewel” recycled plastic has let us explore the unique quality of the material at scale and with a presence we’ve not explored before.

“It was really important that our biggest-ever piece stayed true to our mentality of responsible material use and enduring quality and the “Seraphín” chandelier has achieved this to give interiors a beautiful statement light made with reclaimed and locally sourced materials. We’re really proud of this showpiece and how it upholds our purpose-driven approach to lighting design.”

You can find this 3-tier chandelier in House of Estila, Clerkenwell, London.
