Maud Interiors was founded by Nicola Paisey. Her lifelong passion for artisanal crafts was sparked during childhood holidays in the Middle East, searching for textiles in the souks with her mother. She always wanted to own a shop, but a successful career in corporate marketing came first.
While working, she co-founded a company collaborating with an NGO and jute weaving artisans in Bangladesh. She and her partner would fly out to Dhaka on a Friday, work all weekend, and fly back to London on Sunday evening – often heading straight to the office upon arrival. However, this wasn’t sustainable in the long term.
Determined to follow her passion, Nicola left corporate life a few years later to establish Maud Interiors, named after her family nickname, “Maud”. Driven by a love of travel and a deep respect for traditional craftsmanship, Nicola has sourced handmade pieces from around the world: indigenous weaving from the Highlands of Mexico, intricate tribal embroidery from Rajasthan, silk-screened cushions from Namibia, and copperware from Tambat Alley in Pune.
Her love of textiles led her to create a collection of hand-woven, sustainable wool and cotton blankets, working with a team of weavers in Morocco. Today, her blankets can be found in boutique hotels, holiday homes, and private residences across the UK and overseas.
Each blanket is designed in-house in London and brought to life on traditional wooden looms by master weavers in Morocco. Every stage of production, from cleaning the wool to hand spinning and weaving, is completed by hand using techniques passed down through generations.
“What began as childhood adventures in Middle Eastern souks, searching for textiles and intriguing objects, turned into a lifelong passion and ultimately, after a career in corporate marketing, a business”, says founder Nicola Paisey.
“Whether hand-woven, embroidered, thrown, or carved, we offer a curated collection of timeless pieces for the home, items that add colour, pattern and texture, and tell the stories of their makers.”
Looking ahead, Maud Interiors is excited to introduce new handcrafted collections this autumn.
From hotel suites to private houses, Maud interiors curate pieces that add the finishing touches, homewares that speak of tradition, travel and timeless design.
