Curiousa launches Pastello lighting collection

This autumn, award-winning British lighting studio Curiousa launched Pastello, a playful new bathroom wall lighting collection that transforms everyday rituals into moments of beauty and joy. Pastello combines practical task lighting with warm, ambient glows to turn bathrooms into vibrant, mood-enhancing sanctuaries.

Inspired by the delicacy and joy of pastels, both in hue and heritage, the Pastello Collection takes its name from the Italian word “pastello”, referring not only to pale and delicate colours, but also to the chalk sticks used by 17th-century artists.

Drawing on the studio’s signature colour palette from the award-winning Maya and Carnival collections, now expanded with the rich new Eggplant hue, the collection pairs hand-crafted ceramic and semi-opaque glass shades in a spectrum of pastel shades. Each colour reveals unique qualities when lit: some becoming beautifully translucent, others taking on a soft, matt finish, showcasing the unpredictable magic of natural pigments and materials.

The Pastello collection of twelve individual wall lights includes eleven different ceramic colours, new semi-opaque glass lights with delicately coloured rims, updated classics reimagined for bathrooms and a new Siren series blending glass, ceramic and vintage plates.

Designer and founder Esther Patterson comments: “Bathrooms deserve to be celebrated as a kind of personal shrine toeveryday rituals. They’re the first place we go in the morning—a space to start the day feeling warm, cosy, and inspired.This range embodies my love of colour, texture, and playful form, bringing a sense of joy and individuality to any bathroom.” 

The inspiration behind the range’s palette harks back to the playful, optimistic colours of 1950s-60s melamine tea sets,p icnic scenes and coloured bathroom suites —a celebration of bravery, joy, and the desire to brighten life after dark times. Curiousa invites today’s homeowners and designers to channel that same boldness, creating bathrooms that lift the spirit and inspire the day ahead.

Every ceramic shade is handmade in Curiousa’s Derbyshire studio, capturing the mark of the maker through slip-casting techniques that embrace character over perfection. Each piece is carefully trimmed, sponged and fired just once to reduce energy use while ensuring strength and durability. The result is a tactile, organic feel that contrasts beautifully with the studio’s hand-blown glass.
