Jewelled Buddha was founded by Harjit Sohotey-Khan. The inspiration for the brand began with a backpack, a handful of dreams and a vision – to bring ethical and beautifully handcrafted accessories to a global market, whilst ensuring the artisans who create them are empowered to earn a dignified and sustainable income. Unlike fast fashion, our accessories and clothing are made entirely by hand using upcycled, handloomed, organic and vegan materials. We champion artisans who make our products and work collaboratively to share their stories. Each and every product we carry is handmade by artisans empowered by a fair and sustainable income. Whether it’s Kantha, Shibori, Jamdani or Kashida – you can rest assured that you’re buying authentic textiles. Handcrafted by skilled artisans who are either master weavers or have learned from generations before them, our collections ensure age-old crafts and cultures are preserved, providing you with authentic fashion for your wardrobe and home. We scour the planet to find you beautiful textiles. Currently we’re making our way through Indian textiles. Unlike many brands we don’t just import products, we visit the social enterprises, building lasting relationships, learning about the production and crafts and meeting artisans. We then introduce you to our artisans and show you exclusive behind the scenes moments. We feel this is a necessary part of the story of the product and enables you to connect with your clothing.
We believe we all have the power to influence social change. For us that means fashion that has been created consciously. Women make up the majority of the workforce in the textile industries of developing nations, facing huge challenges such as gender, caste and social inequality.
By choosing to buy sustainable products you’re making a statement to the fashion industry that they need to make a change to the ways in which they produce, make and sell their clothing. Buying sustainable products ensures demand is kept up and artisans and workers continue to work and earn a sustainable wage.
