Introducing Norfolk-based interior design studio Cosu Studio, founded by interior designer by Danielle Taylor. Danielle has recently stepped away from the high-end London scene to forge deeper connections with her clients from the Norfolk countryside, crafting spaces that blend refined elegance with a profound connection to nature.

Here we chat with Danielle about her new studio and the mission she’s on with it…

Can you tell us the backstory of your brand? When and why was it started?

I founded Cosu Studio to align interior design with my values, crafting functional spaces that blend aesthetics with environmental responsibility.

I worked in high-end residential interior design in London for over eight years, working with studios like Elicyon, House of Grey, and Echlin on projects around the world. While it was fast-paced and challenging, it was also a period of immense growth and confidence building. However, from the very beginning of my career, I was frustrated by the lack of eco-conscious and sustainable practices in the industry. Sustainability was, at best, an afterthought.

A little over a year ago, my partner and I decided to move back to our home county of Norfolk. He’s a GP trainee, and Norfolk seemed like the perfect place for his training years. For me, it was an opportunity to step away from the intensity of London life, reconnect with nature, and focus on building something meaningful.

Cosu Studio had been a quiet idea in the background for a while, but after the move, I made it my full focus. I design spaces that are both deeply functional and effortlessly beautiful, with sustainability and craftsmanship at their core. My approach goes beyond surface-level design to create homes that elevate my clients daily lives, so they feel supported and inspired by their surroundings. At the heart of my work is the concept of harmonious living – using design to live holistically and in tune with nature.

What is unique about your brand and the approach you take to each project?

My designs are deeply personal, reflecting the care and attention I bring to every project. Each design tells a story – one of talented craftspeople, thoughtful materials, and meaningful collaboration with my clients. This approach allows me to create spaces that are not only beautifully tailored but also grounded in a sense of purpose.

Through this process, I help clients forge deeper emotional connections to their homes and to nature. By working with skilled artisans and sourcing one-of-a-kind pieces, I bring depth, individuality, and timeless character to each design.

Why is it important for you to work with makers (UK suppliers) and work with them with sustainability in mind?

My appreciation for nature, combined with my ambition to build a purpose-driven business, continually drives my work. As designers, we hold a responsibility to consider the environmental impact of our choices and to champion craft. Beyond the clear benefits of reducing our carbon footprint and strengthening the local economy, working with UK makers allows me to have full visibility of the materials and processes used.

For example, when designing bespoke furniture, like a dining table, collaborating with UK makers ensures I’m involved in every detail – from where the wood is sourced to the finish applied and the craftsmanship of the joints. This level of involvement ensures quality and longevity, resulting in pieces that feel truly special and unique.

Designing furniture and joinery in collaboration with talented makers is one of the most rewarding aspects of my work. I love weaving a meaningful narrative into my clients’ homes, crafting heirloom pieces that can be cherished for generations.

What does conscious design mean to you?

To me, conscious design is about being intentional and considering the environment with every choice. It’s about curating spaces with durable materials, alongside vintage finds, handmade pieces, and reclaimed elements – items that feel timeless, personal, and meaningful.

This approach not only supports our wellbeing but also fosters a sense of harmony in our daily lives. A consciously designed home becomes a considered sanctuary – uplifting, inspiring, and helping us live a more balanced life. At its core, it’s about how a space makes you feel and the positive ripple effect it has on your lifestyle.

What is your favourite project so far and why?

I’m still in the early stages of my business, so I haven’t had a chance to share a finished Cosu Studio project yet. But one of my favourite projects to date was a family home in Highgate, London, which I led while working at House of Grey Interior Studio.

The clients were amazing to work with – so collaborative and appreciative of the thoughtful details we brought into the design. We used natural, eco-friendly materials like Clayworks and Tadelakt and worked with Sebastian Cox to create bespoke joinery using local timber.

It was a project that really embodied what I love most about interior design: creating a personalised home that tells a story, celebrates craftsmanship, and aligns with sustainable values.

What are some of the plans for near future…

At the moment, I’m in the midst of renovating my own terrace house in Norwich, transforming two flats into a cohesive family home. It’s been a rewarding (and sometimes challenging!) process, which I’ve been documenting on my Instagram for those who’d like a behind-the-scenes look.

I’m also focusing on new collaborations with developers and architects on eco-luxury projects – primarily in Norfolk but also further afield.

In addition, I’m about to launch a free downloadable guide, “How to Create Your Dream Home This Spring – An Expert Guide.” This resource is designed to help homeowners feel confident and inspired as they plan their spaces. If you’d like to be the first to know when it’s available, follow me on Instagram or join my email list via my website.

I’m always keen to connect with like-minded clients, artisans, and collaborators who share a passion for thoughtful, sustainable design. If that sounds like you, please do get in touch – I’d love to hear from you!

Lastly, I offer a free discovery call for anyone interested in learning more about my interior design services. If you’re ready to embark upon a long-awaited renovation, or design a new property that’s tailored to your needs and values, let’s chat!
