Book club: must-read book for the summer break

Posted on July 16, 2018 at 12:40 pm by Karolina Barnes

As a small business owner one area you should be constantly practising is learning. Learning from others, learning from case studies, learning from books. For the upcoming summer break I want to bring attention to a book which might change the view on your life, time, success and goals. At least that’s what it did to me.

Life in half a second by Matthew Michalewicz *

If you need a pick-me-up kind of book that puts you in the right mind frame, this book is for you. We all know that life is short but through reading it you’ll realise how short! It’s a kick in the butt book. If you want to achieve success, you need to act now. No more waiting or hesitation.

Why is it must-read?

The book takes you through five doors, from defining your goals, visualisation, understanding your desire to self-belief, making small steps and achieving milestones. It teaches you to create a goal pyramid, which will help you to define the path to your success.

My biggest takeaways:

Lesson one: Have a plan. For everything you do. And write them down on paper. If you like me, you probably store most information in your head. Only recently I got into the habit of writing things down – my thoughts, tasks, goals, plans etc.

Lesson two: Practise visualisation. I think this is something we all struggle with. This book is great because it helps you to work out how to visualise the future.

Lesson three: Connect goals and milestones to tasks. This is the biggest one for me. Connecting the dots and planning each step. This is very important for life and for business, especially if you want to take charge and stop drifting through life.

Happy reading!

Want to be part of a group of like-minded creatives who are going through what you’re going through? We have an amazing community of emerging designers, interior designers, stylists, fashion accessory brands, artists and photographers, where we help each other to grow. This is where I encourage sharing knowledge and brand collaborations. No fakes, self-centred liars and backstabbers are allowed. Please join us here. And, feel free to share if you found this useful!
