Designing a luxury family home with Fiona Brass
Since founding Surrey-based Fiona Brass Interiors back in 2015, interior designer Fiona Brass has helped clients create luxury and timeless homes that are not only practical and functional, but also reflect lifestyle choices of its occupants.
In this Oxshott family home, Fiona helped with designing the formal lounge, open plan lounge and kitchen/diner, master bedroom and home office. Specialising in bespoke design, the project features many design elements unique to the client. While the possibilities are endless when it comes to tailored interior design, creating bespoke pieces is about a collaboration. Fiona’s approach to collaborations is three-way: the client, the designer and the supplier.
Working with local suppliers is something which Fiona Brass Interiors pride upon. As Fiona says: “We have worked with many different trades over the years and only use our trusted contacts who we know do great work for our clients. Where possible, we will use British or even Surrey based suppliers who are local to us. It also makes it much easier for us to meet regularly during the design and installation process. Although some meetings can be done virtually or over the phone, sometimes it’s really valuable meeting in person to discuss the design and any complications in the project if they arise. Equally, it’s also very beneficial that we can nip to the site regularly and be there quickly if needed.”
From designing bespoke sofas, pouffes, side tables to rugs as well as bespoke joinery, for Fiona it is all about giving each room a better function and aesthetic that the client aspires to achieve. By giving clients unique bespoke pieces that are truly special and personal to them, they become valued investments that can be enjoyed and cherished for many years to come.
As Fiona concludes: “Creating bespoke design relies heavily on trust. Our job is to push our clients into new directions they may not have considered before, which can be daunting when it comes to personal homes. Therefore, when working with clients, we need them to essentially have more confidence in us than themselves. Oftentimes, the unusual design elements we implement into the design are the pieces that make a home special and unique.”
