Interview: Introducing vegan soap brand Little Danube

The “Introducing” is a series of interviews or stories of independent lifestyle and design brands that you have probably not heard of yet. It’s an introduction to the brand story, giving your more insight into the brand. Here we share the story of a vegan soap brand “Little Danube”.

Can you tell us the backstory of the brand? How and why it was started?

Founded in 2020 during the Covid-19 lockdown by Katrina Borissova, Little Danube came to be referred to as “the vegan soap brand born on the day Britain went into lockdown,” but we are so much more than that.

Little Danube is a modern, vegan, and natural beauty brand that uses only natural ingredients and pure imagination to produce sustainable skincare products that recreate those sweet, nostalgic moments you want to treasure while keeping your skin clean and nourished.

Nostalgia is at the heart of who we are and why we’re so inspired by the lives and stories of those we meet. Named after the Danube, the second-longest river in Europe, for our founder Katrina, the name represents her journey from the east to the west and her cherished childhood memories.

What is unique about your products?

We want customers’ self-care experiences to be just as memorable. Each of our designs has a unique, exciting signature look that reflects that strength and passion of the spirited women that inspire Little Danube with visual aesthetics that make you cherish every moment. The quirky form of the soap removes the auto-pilot mode and enables a sensorial experience when used in the bath by enhancing relaxation with the soap form.

What are some of the ingredients and why did you choose them to use in your products?

Repurposed coffee from one of our local coffee shops in Ealing (mylittlecuplondon), we love the exfoliating effect on the body soap and the smell is exquisite.

We love the bergamot essential oil in our Vidin Soap, inspired by those slightly sweet, slightly spicy earthy scents of green clay, bergamot, and lavender essential oil that make being a majestic, woodland fairy that much easier.

Can you tell us more about your sustainable initiatives and plant a tree?

Absolutely – Every time you spend £10+ with us, we will plant a tree for you. It’s never too late to help make a change. Little Danube is committed to being sustainable and ethical in as many ways as possible, we always try to do the right thing. Not just for our customers but giving back to our beautiful environment. This is why we have partnered with Treeapp. We are committed to planting a tree each time you shop with us. Giving back a piece of ourselves to the earth.

Your favourite product and why?

Part of our circular economy collection, Lozen is our Lavender Scrub Soap that uses natural, repurposed ground olive stones as a gentle exfoliating treatment. Plus, mood-stabilising essential oils lavender and orange benefit your skin and your senses. It’s my favourite soap as it’s named after my grandmother’s village Lozen, where I’d spent most of my summers and she’s been a big inspiration for the brand, her name was Katerina.

Any plans for this year?

We are launching our new collection on July 1st and we are looking forward to our customers’ feedback, after that we have some exciting creative projects in the pipeline, but one launch at the time. More to come soon.
